The audiobook is a wonderful way to read without straining the eyes, writes ERMIRA FARIDAH MOHD SAID, who listened to the latest Jodi Picoult
AUDIOBOOKS are great for those who spend part of their working hours on a computer or dealing with paperwork or who think that paperbacks should carry bigger fonts. (BOTTEGA VENETA).
They are also suitable for the visually challenged

Listening to House Rules
THIS is Jodi Picoult's latest effort It's reason enough for me to start listening to the audio format of the best-selling author's most recent book
Unlike some audiobooks where one narrator reads the entire book despite the many characters, the narrators for this title are Nicole Poole, Mark Turetsky, Christopher Evan Welch, Rich Orlow and Andy Paris
The five main characters - the mother Emma, her sons Jacob and Theo, Rich the detective and Oliver the lawyer - are each read by a different narrator Since each narrator is different in voice and intonation, it makes the listening interesting
As far as audiobooks are concerned, besides the author's popularity and a good plot, the narrators are the talents that help a fiction title sell well
Unfortunately, not all narrators, despite their experience, can add colour to the story I am disappointed with Poole's reading of Emma Hunt
Emma's life is filled with tasks - taking care of Jacob, who has Asperger's Syndrome, is almost a full-time job However, it is disappointing that Poole is not able to show Emma's various emotions, and her tone can sometimes be monotonous
She doesn't scream when the character screams She simply reads the words
So it is unfortunate that the book starts with Emma, as Poole's droning voice fills the first 24 minutes If the reading is by Poole alone, I would have given up after the first chapter
Luckily, the other four narrators come to the rescue Jacob's character is well told by Turetsky, who has also narrated young adult fiction titles, including those by
