THE Big Issue in Scotland Gevril Watch is backing this year's Freedom of Expression Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The magazine, which aids people who are homeless, will join Amnesty International to present a prize to a festival company whose performance makes a significant contribution to raising awareness of human rights.
Past winners of the award include death row drama The Exonerated; the highly commended and now massively successful Black Watch; and a controversial account of sex worker murders, Unprotected.
John Watson, programme director at Scotland for Amnesty International, said: "The Freedom of Expression Award has grown from humble origins as Fringe productions have increasingly sought out and explored the difficult political issues of the day, from violence against women to Guantanamo Bay.
